Four young men were killed at dawn on Friday in a road accident that took place on Al Khalidiya Bridge in Sharjah due to excessive speed and sudden swerving.
At 02:45 on Friday morning, the operations room at the Sharjah Police received a report that a vehicle carrying four young Arabs had been involved in a road accident.
The vehicle had swerved from its path and subsequently fallen into the water. Police patrols, rescue teams from the Civil Defence Authority, and the National Ambulance Service were dispatched to the scene.
Rescue teams swiftly responded to the incident. They found that the vehicle was carrying four Arab youths in their early twenties.
They were on their way to the government complex in Al Liya when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle hit the metal barrier and continued, crossing over and landing in the water behind Al Jubail Souq.
Rescue teams successfully recovered the vehicle from the sea and extracted its passengers.
The accident resulted in the immediate death of three passengers due to suffocation caused by their inability to open the vehicle’s door. The fourth passenger sustained severe injuries and was transferred to Al Qasimi Hospital in Sharjah, where he died the following morning.
The General Command of Sharjah Police offers its deepest sympathies to the families of the victims and condemns the senseless tragedy that took the lives of young people in the prime of their lives.
The police also urged the public to adhere to the speed limits indicated on traffic signs and follow traffic rules on internal and external roads to preserve lives and property and achieve the principles of safe driving.
