A 5.5 magnitude earthquake hit northern parts of Pakistan, sending strong tremors across several cities. People in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Abbottabad, Chakwal, Mardan, Mianwali, Kalabagh, Karak, and Chiniot felt the shaking and rushed out of their homes and offices in panic.

According to reports, the earthquake’s epicenter was located about 12 kilometers northwest of Rawalpindi, at a depth of 12 kilometers beneath the ground. The sudden tremors caught many people off guard, creating fear and confusion across the region.

Thankfully, there have been no immediate reports of damage to buildings or any loss of life. However, the strong vibrations caused concern among residents, especially those in high-rise buildings and densely populated areas. Emergency services and local authorities are on alert and monitoring the situation closely.

Experts say that earthquakes are not unusual in this region, which lies near a fault line. However, they have advised people to remain alert and follow basic safety measures in case of aftershocks.

Videos shared on social media showed people gathering in open spaces, including parks and streets, as they waited for the tremors to stop. Schools, offices, and shopping centers temporarily halted activities to ensure everyone’s safety.

Authorities have asked the public to stay calm but cautious. They recommend moving to safe open areas if tremors are felt again and to avoid using elevators during such events. In addition, people are advised to keep emergency kits ready at home and be familiar with safety protocols.

While the quake did not cause any serious harm this time, it served as a reminder of the importance of preparedness in earthquake-prone areas. More updates will be shared as authorities continue to assess the situation.
