These stars may have only dropped by for a few scenes, but they sparked their own dedicated fandoms
Lights, camera, action! Buckle up, film lovers, for a wild ride through the most unforgettable Bollywood cameos that left us clamouring for more. These blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearances are the spice of cinema, sprinkling stardust over scenes that become etched in our memories forever. From star-studded surprises to laugh-out-loud moments, here are five cameos that stole the show and our hearts.
Juhi Chawla in ‘Andaz Apna Apna’
Remember when the ever-charming Juhi Chawla popped up in the wacky world of Andaz Apna Apna? In a dream sequence that had us grinning ear to ear, Juhi played herself, the superstar, asking Aamir Khan’s character, Amar, for a bicycle lift. As Amar, fawning over her, almost married the starlet, we were treated to his hilariously earnest declaration: “Main tumhain tan, mann, aur dhan se sweekaar karta hoon.” And let’s not forget Govinda’s cameo as Juhi’s co-star in the same sequence. With their over-the-top antics and infectious chemistry, this dream was a comedy goldmine.
Salman Khan in ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani’
Salman Khan, or should we say Sallu, dropped by Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani to give us one of the film’s most uproarious moments. When Jenny (Katrina Kaif) calls him to a coffee shop for an autograph, Prem (Ranbir Kapoor) is left trembling in his shoes. Salman’s deadpan comeback, “Abey tu toh aise mila raha hai jaise meri girlfriend ko apni bata raha hai,” had us rolling in the aisles. Salman’s cool-as-a-cucumber demeanour contrasted with Prem’s bumbling nervousness, making this cameo an instant classic.
Kapil Dev in ‘Mujhse Shaadi Karogi’
Cricket legend Kapil Dev has graced Bollywood screens several times, but his cameo in Mujhse Shaadi Karogi is an easy topper. Sharing the frame with Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra, and Akshay Kumar, Kapil’s appearance in a cricket stadium was both unexpected and delightful. His Punjabi-flavoured dialogue delivery added a unique charm to the scene and with fellow cricketers Harbhajan Singh, Irfan Pathan, Ashish Nehra, and Navjot Singh Sidhu joining in, it was a cricket-Bollywood crossover we didn’t know we needed.
Akshay Kumar in ‘Om Shanti Om’
Farah Khan’s love letter to Bollywood, Om Shanti Om, features a myriad of cameos, but Akshay Kumar’s appearance is sheer cinematic brilliance. Portraying an action star in the fictional movie Return of the Khiladi, Akshay’s character is a mash-up of gunslinger, Rajinikanth, and his own Khiladi persona. In an over-the-top action sequence at an imaginary Filmfare Awards, he chews bullets, turns them into a bomb, and creates a killer backdrop. His gun-twirling antics are so outrageous they defy description. Akshay’s cameo was not just a scene; it was a whole cultural reset.
Ranbir Kapoor in ‘PK’
PK ended on a poignant note with Aamir Khan’s alien character bidding farewell. But director Raju Hirani threw in a delightful twist with Ranbir Kapoor’s cameo. As PK returns to Earth, he brings a new alien colleague, played by Ranbir. Emerging from a spaceship in all his bewildered, bug-eyed glory, Ranbir’s expressions of fear and curiosity are priceless. It’s a moment of pure cinematic joy, leaving us wishing for a sequel where Ranbir’s alien navigates our quirky world.
