Pakistan Launches Anti-Smog Cannons in Lahore to Keep Skies Clear

The Punjab government has introduced anti-smog cannons in Lahore to help reduce rising air pollution levels. These machines work by spraying a fine mist of water into the atmosphere, which helps trap harmful particles and dust that cause smog. By cleaning the air in this way, officials hope to improve health and visibility across the city.

Each anti-smog cannon has the ability to spray up to 100 meters and is supported by a large 16,000-litre water tanker. This makes the system capable of covering wide areas and providing a steady supply of mist for longer periods.

Authorities say these machines will be used at key points in Lahore, especially during peak smog season, to bring down dangerous pollution levels.

This move is part of a broader clean air strategy introduced under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The vision behind the initiative is to create a healthier environment for residents and to protect future generations from the harmful effects of smog.

Along with the deployment of anti-smog cannons, the provincial government is also working on other measures.

These include installing air quality monitoring systems across the city, taking strict action against industries and vehicles causing high levels of pollution, and running awareness campaigns to encourage people to play their role in reducing smog.

Officials believe that the combination of technology, enforcement and public cooperation will help Punjab make progress in its fight against pollution. The use of these cannons is just the first step toward building cleaner and safer cities.
