Pakistan and Saudi Arabia Plan Economic Corridor Inspired by CPEC After Defense Pact

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are moving forward with plans to create a Pakistan-Saudi Economic Corridor, modeled after the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The goal is to strengthen trade routes, attract investment, and improve regional connectivity while aligning with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 development agenda.

The new corridor will serve as a major link for economic cooperation, focusing on energy, infrastructure, agriculture, and climate projects.

Officials say the initiative could become a cornerstone of Pakistan-Saudi relations, opening new paths for business and employment opportunities in both countries.

An 18-member high-level committee has been formed to lead the talks. The group is co-chaired by Senator Musadik Malik and Lt. Gen. Sarfraz Ahmed, who will coordinate the strategic framework, logistics, and implementation roadmap for the corridor.

This economic collaboration follows the recent signing of a Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. The defense pact has already strengthened bilateral trust, paving the way for broader cooperation in security and economic affairs.

This development can be seen as a turning point in Pakistan’s regional diplomacy. By partnering more closely with Riyadh, Islamabad aims to diversify its alliances and attract Gulf investment into key sectors, including renewable energy and food security.

If implemented successfully, the Pakistan-Saudi Economic Corridor could become a new model for cross-regional partnership linking South Asia, the Middle East, and beyond through trade, energy, and innovation.
