Lahore is gearing up for a major transformation as the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) announces plans to build the city’s first-ever expressway. The project, valued at Rs9 billion, will connect Arfa Karim Tower to Pine Avenue via Raiwind Road, aiming to alleviate the city’s worsening traffic congestion.
This new expressway will provide a much-needed alternative route for commuters, particularly reducing congestion around Kalma Chowk, one of Lahore’s busiest intersections. The development promises to reduce travel time and enhance overall connectivity across key areas of the city.
In the first phase, the expressway will stretch from Arfa Karim Tower to Maulana Shaukat Ali Road. It will feature a modern three-lane dual carriageway equipped with safety measures and efficient drainage systems.
According to LDA officials, the PC-1 for the project has already been prepared and is awaiting final approval. Once approved, construction is expected to begin soon, marking another step toward modernizing Lahore’s transport infrastructure.
Officials also shared that the project has been designed with environmental sustainability in mind. The new expressway will include green belts and noise barriers to ensure a cleaner and safer urban environment.
With this development, Lahore is taking another stride toward becoming a modern, well-connected city where infrastructure meets innovation, paving the way for smoother, smarter, and greener urban mobility.
