Punjab’s Senior Minister, Marriyum Aurangzeb, has announced the launch of an advanced AI based monitoring and forecasting system to control smog across the province. This innovative system aims to help the government take early action against pollution and protect public health.
According to the minister, the AI-powered technology can predict air pollution levels up to four months in advance. This will give authorities enough time to plan and implement preventive steps to reduce smog, including stricter regulations on industries, traffic management, and awareness campaigns for the public.
The system is being developed in collaboration with the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) and will use a mix of smart tools, including drone surveillance and real-time monitoring, to ensure effective environmental management.
With drone-based tracking, the government can identify and respond to sources of pollution quickly, while the integration with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) control room ensures immediate action against violators.
Marriyum Aurangzeb emphasized that this initiative marks a major step toward making Punjab a cleaner and healthier province. She highlighted that the use of technology and data-driven decision-making will not only help tackle smog but also improve air quality throughout the year.
The minister also shared that the AI system will provide valuable insights for policy-making and environmental planning, setting a model for other provinces to follow.
This effort reflects the government’s strong commitment to combating climate change, protecting citizens’ health, and ensuring sustainable development for future generations.
