  • Keaton became a Hollywood icon throughout her decadeslong career.

Academy Award winner Diane Keaton has died at 79.

Born in Los Angeles, Keaton got her start performing in high school plays before cementing herself as both a Hollywood and style icon in 1977, when she starred in "Annie Hall."

Over the years, Keaton continued to act in much-loved films, like "Father of the Bride." She also ventured into other passions. She authored a memoir, created a wine brand, and even flipped houses.

Here's a look at her long career.

In her 2011 memoir, "Then Again," Keaton said she scored a role in the original Broadway production of "Hair" in 1968. That same year, she auditioned and landed a lead role in Woody Allen's Broadway play, "Play It Again, Sam." Allen's play premiered in 1969, and Keaton received a Tony nomination for her role.

"Play it Again, Sam" later became a film in 1972.

Keaton rose to fame with her role in "The Godfather."

Although Keaton herself did not receive an award for "The Godfather," the film took home several trophies that year. Keaton reprised her role in two subsequent films, "The Godfather II" and "The Godfather III."
