Indonesia has signed a major $9 billion deal with China to buy advanced J-10C fighter jets, making it the second country after Pakistan to operate this aircraft.

The agreement was confirmed by Indonesia’s Defence Minister, Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, who said the purchase is part of the government’s plan to modernize the country’s air force.

Under this deal, Indonesia will receive 42 J-10C jets equipped with the latest technology and weapons systems.

These fighter jets are known for their high speed, strong maneuverability, and advanced radar capabilities, making them a valuable addition to Indonesia’s defense system.

This is also a historic move, as it marks Indonesia’s first-ever purchase of Chinese-made military aircraft. In the past, Indonesia mainly bought defense equipment from Western countries such as the United States and France, as well as from Russia.

However, this deal shows a shift in defense cooperation between Indonesia and China, signaling closer military ties between the two nations.

Finance officials in Jakarta have already approved the funding for the purchase, and the delivery of the jets is expected to begin in stages over the next few years.

The decision comes at a time when Indonesia is focusing on strengthening its defense capabilities to secure its vast airspace and maritime borders amid growing regional tensions.

With this agreement, Indonesia aims to enhance its air defense and maintain balance in the region. The move also highlights China’s growing influence in the global defense market, as more countries turn to its advanced yet cost-effective military technology.
