The Punjab Government has started a new weekend double-decker bus service between Lahore and Sheikhupura to promote tourism and showcase the region’s cultural and historical heritage.
This initiative, launched by the Tourism & Archaeology Department, aims to encourage people to explore the beauty and history of Sheikhupura while supporting local tourism-related businesses.
The bus service operates every Saturday and Sunday with a fare of Rs. 1,200 per person. It offers tourists a comfortable and enjoyable journey filled with scenic views and engaging activities.
On its inaugural trip, passengers visited famous landmarks including Hiran Minar and the shrine of Waris Shah, where they experienced cultural recitations, boating, and cycling activities that celebrated the region’s rich traditions and hospitality.
Officials highlighted that this project is part of the government’s broader plan to make Sheikhupura a major tourism hub in Punjab. By improving accessibility and offering organized travel options, the initiative is expected to attract more domestic and international tourists.
The government also hopes that the growing tourist flow will help boost local businesses, such as restaurants, hotels, and craft markets, thereby creating more job opportunities for the community.
Moreover, the project emphasizes the importance of preserving historical and cultural landmarks, ensuring that future generations can appreciate the district’s heritage.
