Italy has returned a collection of ancient artifacts nearly 5,000 years old to Pakistan, marking a major success in preserving the country’s cultural heritage.

The precious relics were stolen years ago from archaeological sites in Balochistan, particularly from the historic Kuli and Naal settlements, which date back to the early Bronze Age, even before the famous Indus Valley Civilization.

According to the Pakistani Embassy in Rome, the artifacts safely arrived in Pakistan on October 30, 2025. Italian authorities had earlier seized these items after they were smuggled out of Pakistan, following an international investigation into the illegal trade of antiquities.

The embassy described the return as a symbol of strong friendship and excellent bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Italy. Both countries have long shared an interest in archaeology and historical research, and this act further strengthens their cultural partnership.

Officials stated that the recovered artifacts would be displayed in museums, allowing future generations to appreciate Pakistan’s ancient past. They also emphasized the importance of protecting archaeological sites to prevent further theft and smuggling of valuable relics.

Over the last 18 years, nearly 100 historical artifacts have been successfully returned to Pakistan through international collaboration.

The latest recovery highlights the joint commitment of Pakistan and Italy to safeguard world heritage, promote cultural understanding, and combat the illegal trafficking of antiquities, ensuring that these treasures of human history remain preserved for all.
