The Sindh government has decided to review and reduce traffic fines under its new AI-based e-ticketing system, known as Tracs, after facing public and political criticism.

The decision comes as thousands of citizens expressed concern that the penalties were too high and unfairly enforced.

Since the launch of the system, nearly 30,000 e-challans have been issued across the province. Many drivers complained that the fines were excessive, while others pointed out errors such as tickets being sent to vehicles they no longer own. In response, the authorities have started working on solutions to address these concerns.

Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ghulam Nabi Memon explained that the main goal of Tracs is to improve road safety, reduce violations, and ensure discipline on the roads.

However, he also admitted that better coordination is needed between police departments and other local agencies to make the system more effective and fair for everyone.

The government now plans to adjust the amount of fines while keeping the AI-based system active. The reduction in penalties aims to make enforcement more reasonable and acceptable to the public, without compromising on traffic safety.

Officials have assured that citizens’ complaints are being carefully reviewed and that improvements will be made to ensure transparency and accuracy in issuing challans. The revised fine structure and related updates are expected to be announced by the end of November.

This step reflects the government’s effort to balance technology-driven enforcement with fairness and public trust.
