PIMS Hospital has achieved a major milestone by successfully performing Islamabad’s first robotic surgery on a female patient. The groundbreaking procedure was carried out using the advanced ‘Tomai’ surgical robot from China, with expert guidance provided by specialists from the United Kingdom.

This historic operation brought together medical teams from the General Surgery and Urology departments. The procedure was supervised by Prof. Shamim Khan, Prof. Mateen Sharif, and Dr. Javed Barki, who played a key role in ensuring its success.

According to Dr. Mateen Sharif, robotic surgery is transforming modern medicine by offering greater accuracy, minimal bleeding, and faster recovery for patients.

He explained that the robotic system allows surgeons to perform complex operations with enhanced precision and control, reducing the chances of complications.

PIMS Executive Director Dr. Imran Sikandar added that this technology greatly reduces patient pain and hospital stay time, helping patients return to normal life much sooner. He praised the medical team for their dedication and commitment to bringing innovation to Pakistan’s healthcare system.

The successful completion of this surgery marks an important step toward advancing healthcare technology in the country. Officials at PIMS believe that with continued government support, robotic surgery can soon be introduced in other hospitals across Pakistan.

This achievement not only highlights the growing capabilities of Pakistan’s medical sector but also reflects the country’s readiness to adopt global standards in healthcare. It stands as a proud moment for Islamabad and a promising sign for the future of surgery in Pakistan.
