The Sindh government has issued new instructions for all government officers after seeing a sharp rise in traffic violations committed by official vehicles.
According to authorities, the new e-challan system has recorded many cases where government-owned cars and motorcycles were breaking traffic rules. As a result, a large number of challans were being delivered directly to government offices instead of the individuals responsible.
To address this issue, the provincial administration has now made it clear that government officers must pay these fines themselves.
A detailed notification has been sent to all major departments, informing them that the cost of any e-challan will no longer be covered by the government. Instead, the officer who was driving the vehicle at the time of the violation will be held responsible for clearing the fine from their own salary or personal funds.
Officials say the purpose of this decision is to promote accountability and ensure that government employees follow traffic rules just like ordinary citizens. They believe that when officers are required to pay the penalty themselves, they will be more careful on the road and more conscious of public safety.
The government also hopes that this step will reduce misuse of official vehicles and discourage careless driving. With the e-challan system now active across major roads, traffic violations are captured through cameras, leaving little room for denial or excuses.
By enforcing personal payment of fines, Sindh aims to send a clear message: government vehicles do not grant special privileges, and everyone must respect traffic laws to improve road discipline and safety in the province.
