In a sad yet proud moment for Pakistan Super League (PSL) fans, Ali Tareen has stepped down as owner of the Multan Sultans.
The young businessman shared the news on social media on November 25, 2025, after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) did not offer him a chance to renew the team’s contract. Tareen, who took over in 2018 after his uncle, Alamgir Tareen, died, called it one of the greatest honors of his life.
“Despite money losses every year, I never wanted to quit. The Sultans mean more than numbers to me,” Tareen wrote. He spoke from the heart about his love for the team, players, and fans.
Most of all, he cherished representing South Punjab, a dream his late uncle held dear. Under Tareen’s watch, Multan Sultans became PSL champions in 2021 and reached finals twice more. The team brought joy to a region often ignored in cricket.
Tareen highlighted key values like hard work and full effort that defined his time. He admitted past fights with PCB over league issues, saying he’d rather lose standing tall than bend low. Now, with PSL growing to eight teams in 2026, the board must find a new owner for the Sultans.
