Pakistan’s mobile phone imports increased sharply during the first five months of the fiscal year 2025–26, reaching a total value of Rs 226 billion, which is around $801 million. This shows a growth of more than 40 percent compared to the same period last year.

The rise in imports is mainly due to higher consumer demand and stable activity in the mobile phone market. More people are buying new phones, especially smartphones, which has pushed import numbers higher. There was also a clear month-on-month increase in November, indicating that demand continued to grow as the year progressed.

At the same time, local mobile phone manufacturing in Pakistan remains strong. Millions of handsets are being assembled within the country, including both smartphones and basic 2G devices. Local assembly plants are playing an important role in meeting domestic demand and supporting employment in the technology sector.

Overall, the data highlights changing consumer preferences, with people increasingly relying on modern mobile technology. It also shows that while Pakistan continues to depend on imported mobile phones and components, local production capacity is gradually expanding and contributing to the market.
