Sri Lankan shares rise on gains in utilities and energy stocks

Sri Lankan shares closed higher on Tuesday, snapping a four-session losing streak, led by utilities and energy stocks.

The CSE All Share index settled up 0.13% at 21,927

India will provide an assistance package worth $450 million to Sri Lanka for cyclone relief and repair, India’s Foreign Minister said on Tuesday.

Industrial Asphalts (Ceylon) and Colombo Dockyard were the top percentage gainers on the CSE All Share index, rising 25% and 24.8%, respectively.

Trading volume on the CSE All Share index jumped to 102.3 million shares from 81.9 million in the previous session.

The equity market’s turnover fell to 2.56 billion Sri Lankan rupees ($8.3 million) from 2.98 billion rupees in the previous session, according to exchange data.

Foreign investors were net sellers, offloading stocks worth 217.8 million rupees, while domestic investors were net buyers, purchasing shares worth 2.41 billion rupees, the data showed.
