Punjab Govt Announces Rs. 200,000 Grant for Marriage Couples Under ‘Dhee Rani Program’

The Punjab government has announced major improvements to the Dhee Rani Program, increasing financial support for married couples across the province. Under the approval of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the marriage cash grant has been doubled from Rs 100,000 to Rs 200,000, while the number of beneficiaries has been expanded from 3,000 to 5,000.

This decision aims to provide stronger financial relief to low-income families and support women at the time of marriage. For the financial year 2025 to 26, the Punjab government has allocated Rs 1.70 billion for the program. This budget reflects the government’s commitment to social welfare and women-focused initiatives.

Out of the total allocation, Rs 50 million has been set aside for advertising and public awareness to ensure eligible families are informed about the program. An additional Rs 8 million has been allocated for issuing Bank of Punjab cards, through which beneficiaries will transparently receive the grant amount.

The government has also planned to clear vendor payments worth Rs 660 million during the same financial year. These payments cover services related to program operations and support activities.

Despite requests for extra funding, the Finance Department has decided to keep the program within the approved budget. Officials stated that effective financial management will allow the program to support more women without increasing overall spending.

The expansion of the Dhee Rani Program is being welcomed as a positive step toward easing marriage-related financial pressure on families. By increasing both the grant amount and the number of beneficiaries, the Punjab government aims to promote dignity, support women, and strengthen social support systems across the province.
