Punjab Launches Electric Bus Service in Jhelum

Jhelum has taken a major step toward modern and sustainable urban transport with the launch of 15 electric buses, under the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

The initiative aims to provide residents with convenient, eco-friendly, and affordable public transport options.

The electric bus service was inaugurated during a ceremony on Monday. Minister of State for Railways, Bilal Azhar Kayani, highlighted that the project would bring transport facilities in Jhelum closer to the standards seen in larger cities across Punjab.

He said the move demonstrates the government’s dedication to improving mobility while reducing environmental pollution.

Officials noted that the new fleet will offer commuters a comfortable and efficient travel experience, encouraging more people to shift from private vehicles to public transport. This shift is expected to reduce traffic congestion and lower carbon emissions in the district.

The launch in a smaller city like Jhelum also reflects the provincial government’s commitment to balanced development across Punjab. By introducing modern public transport in less urbanized areas, the authorities aim to ensure that all residents benefit from technological and infrastructural advancements.

The project is part of a broader plan to modernize urban mobility across the province, including the introduction of additional electric buses in other cities.

Authorities believe that expanding sustainable transport solutions will not only improve daily commuting but also contribute to long-term environmental protection and a greener future for Punjab.

Residents of Jhelum are expected to benefit from improved accessibility, reduced travel costs, and a cleaner environment as the electric bus service begins operation. The initiative sets a positive example for other smaller cities in Pakistan to adopt modern, sustainable transport systems.
