Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has announced that students studying in private educational institutions across Punjab will also benefit from the government’s free laptop scheme.

Under this initiative, 10,000 laptops will be distributed to deserving students from the private sector, expanding the reach of the program beyond public institutions.

While sharing details of the education department’s progress, the minister declared 2025 as the “year of initiatives” for Punjab’s education sector. He said several important reforms have already been implemented to improve transparency, quality, and efficiency in the system.

One major step was the removal of nearly two million ghost enrollments, which helped ensure that education resources are directed to genuine students.

Rana Sikandar Hayat also highlighted the rationalisation of around 26,000 teachers to improve staff deployment according to actual needs. He added that reforms have been introduced in the syllabus and examination system, along with the introduction of e-marking to make assessments more transparent and fair.

The minister said that Early Childhood Education rooms have been set up in 10,000 schools across the province. Through a nutrition program linked to these initiatives, around 1.1 million young students are now receiving additional support for healthy growth and learning.

In addition, 268 schools have been upgraded to improve infrastructure and facilities. The government has also taken firm action on harassment complaints in educational institutions to ensure a safe environment for students and staff.

He further shared that merit-based appointments of principals and vice chancellors have been completed, aiming to strengthen leadership and improve overall educational standards in Punjab.
