QUETTA: At least one person was killed and five others were injured in a hand grenade attack near Chenak Chowk in Balochistan’s Sibi district on Thursday evening, said police.

Station House Officer (SHO) Ghulam Ali, posted in Sibi, told media that the incident was a grenade attack which occurred at 7:05pm.

“One person expired, and five others were injured,” the SHO said.

Another police official told media that the explosion took place near the wall of the girls’ high school and that police reached the scene as soon as the explosion was reported.

“The injured were moved to the Teaching Hospital,” he said. “The bomb disposal squad has reached the site of the explosion.”

The official added that the nature of the explosion will be ascertained.
