PhirAaiBasant Marks a Cultural Revival as Lahore Prepares for Citywide Celebrationsu

The Government of Punjab has officially announced the return of Basant in Lahore under the hashtag #PhirAaiBasant. This move shows the government’s effort to bring back cultural activities in an organised and citywide manner.

The Basant celebrations are being held as an official initiative of the Punjab government, with the aim of reconnecting people with their cultural traditions while following strict safety and legal rules. The Department of Culture is working together with civic bodies and law enforcement agencies to make sure the celebrations are safe, disciplined, and well managed.

The revival of Basant follows the vision of Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz Sharif, who have stressed the importance of restoring cultural traditions in a responsible and regulated way. The announcement highlights the Punjab government’s commitment to protecting and promoting the province’s cultural heritage under proper supervision.

During the celebrations, Lahore is expected to be decorated across the city, turning public spaces into colourful and lively areas that reflect cultural identity. The campaign aims to bring back memories linked to Basant and create a shared festive spirit among citizens.

Authorities have confirmed that Basant will be celebrated only within the Lahore district. To ensure public safety, strict Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) have been enforced. These include buying kites only from government-approved stalls and using cotton strings only, with a complete ban on dangerous materials. Motorcycle use will remain banned during all three days of the event.

To support safe travel, public transport will be free, and more than 5,000 registered rickshaws will provide free rides across the city. Authorities will also monitor the use of drones and social media to prevent violations and ensure everyone follows the rules.

Beyond the festivities, the return of Basant is seen as a boost for cultural and creative activities, strengthening Lahore’s image as a city of heritage and community life. Citizens have been asked to celebrate responsibly and help make Basant a safe, enjoyable, and memorable event for everyone.
