ISLAMABAD: The Balochistan Bar Council (BBC) on Tuesday expressed serious concern over the continuation of one of its members from the province on the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP).

In a two-page letter addressed to the JCP secretary, and signed by BBC Vice Chairman Jadain Dashti, Executive Committee Chairman Ayaz Khan Mandokhail and three other members, the council stated that it had come to its notice that Muhammad Saleem Lashari, a member from Balochistan, despite claiming continuous legal practice, was allegedly holding a government post as Instructor (BPS-14) in the Directorate of Manpower Training (Youth Vocational Training Centres) from April 12, 1997, to December 31, 2015.

The letter stated that it is a settled legal and professional position that a person holding a government post is legally barred from practicing as an advocate during such period. It added that engaging in private legal practice while being a salaried government employee constitutes professional misconduct under Section 41 of the Legal Practitioners and Bar Councils Act, 1973, rendering an advocate liable to disciplinary proceedings, including suspension or removal of his name from the Roll of Advocates.
