Deputy Commissioner Orders Strict No-Smoking Rules in Faislabad Hospitals

Faisalabad District has implemented a strict no-smoking policy across all public and private hospitals to protect patients, staff, and visitors from the harms of tobacco.

The directive comes from the Deputy Commissioner, emphasizing that smoking is completely banned in offices, corridors, waiting areas, and all hospital premises.

The Chief Executive Officer of Health Faisalabad instructed hospital management teams to put up clear “No Smoking” signs, educate staff on enforcement, and submit monthly reports confirming compliance. Hospitals are also required to train employees to ensure the rule is followed and to prevent any violations within the premises.

This move is part of the broader Punjab Prohibition of Smoking Ordinance 2002, updated in 2025, which applies to hospitals, schools, government offices, shopping malls, and public transport.

The law allows fines of up to Rs. 100,000 for violations, underlining the government’s commitment to public health.

Health experts highlight that smoking in hospitals not only harms patients with respiratory or cardiovascular conditions but also puts staff and visitors at risk from secondhand smoke.

Faisalabad’s enforcement of these rules reflects a growing focus on smoke-free environments in Pakistan, aligning with global standards for public health.

By strictly monitoring and penalizing smoking violations, authorities aim to reduce tobacco-related health risks and promote awareness among the public.

The policy also sets an example for other districts to follow, creating safer and healthier healthcare spaces for everyone.
