“We’re Still in the Tournament, We Have to Win Our Match & See if New Zealand Lose Theirs,” Shaheen Afridi

Following Pakistan’s narrow defeat to England in the Super 8 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, fast bowler Shaheen Afridi emphasized that the national team remains very much in contention in the tournament. England managed to chase down a target of 165 runs in the final over, thanks largely to an outstanding century by Harry Brook that anchored their innings and kept Pakistan under constant pressure.

Shaheen Afridi acknowledged that Pakistan had aimed for a target closer to 180 but struggled to build substantial partnerships at critical moments in the match. He highlighted the importance of these partnerships, noting that their absence made the chase much more challenging. Despite the setback, he gave full credit to Brook for his world-class innings, describing it as a performance that deserved recognition.

Reflecting on the team’s position, Shaheen remained optimistic. “We’re still in the tournament. Our focus is to win our next match and hope that New Zealand loses theirs,” he said, underlining the team’s determination to keep their World Cup campaign alive. He also spoke about his personal commitment to improvement, stating that he is focused on enhancing his own performance in the coming games to contribute more effectively to the team’s success.
