Saudi Arabia Hosts 1.68 Million Umrah Pilgrims During Ramadan 2026

Saudi Arabia hosted around 1.68 million international pilgrims for Umrah during Ramadan 2026, underscoring the holy month’s importance to Muslims worldwide. Millions of people travel each year to perform Umrah, but the number often rises during Ramadan because of its heightened spiritual significance.

Pilgrims gathered in the holy cities of Mecca and Medina, where they performed religious rituals and prayers. The Grand Mosque in Mecca remained the main center of activity, with worshippers coming from different countries to take part in the spiritual journey.

Saudi authorities made special arrangements to manage the large crowds. These included better transport services, crowd control systems, and medical facilities to ensure safety and comfort. Digital tools and mobile apps were also used to guide pilgrims and provide real-time updates.

The government has been working for years to improve facilities under its long-term development plans. Expansion projects around the holy sites have helped increase capacity, making it easier for more people to perform Umrah.

Ramadan is considered one of the most blessed months in Islam, and performing Umrah during this time holds great reward. For many pilgrims, this journey is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

The large number of visitors this year reflects strong global participation and highlights unity among Muslims. It also shows Saudi Arabia’s continued efforts to host pilgrims and support religious tourism on a large scale.
