The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) achieved a significant milestone by introducing the 6 Gigahertz (GHz) spectrum band for unlicensed operation, enabling Wi-Fi 6E, also known as Radio Local Area Networks (RLAN).

With this move, Pakistan joins the ranks of the 10th country in the Asia Pacific region and one of only 60 countries worldwide to adopt the 6GHz band for Wi-Fi services. This announcement was made during an event titled “Unlocking Pakistan’s Connectivity: Enablement of Next-Gen Wi-Fi in 6GHz Band.”

During the event, PTA Chairman Major General (retd) Hafeez Ur Rehman highlighted Pakistan’s leadership in embracing next-generation Wi-Fi technology. He emphasized that Pakistan stands out among forward-thinking nations in Asia by leveraging the potential of Wi-Fi 6E.

Currently, Wi-Fi in Pakistan operates in the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, with available bandwidths of 100 MHz and 150 MHz, respectively. However, these bands often face congestion due to multiple applications. Wi-Fi 6E is expected to alleviate these congestion and latency issues, according to an official statement by PTA.
