Gulf Today Report
Just days after Delhi was withering under a blistering record-breaking heat at 52.9 degrees Celsius, the temperature in Nagpur has now hit a new high, exceeding 50 degrees Celsius. On Thursday, it reached a whopping 56˚C, the Times of India reported.
Two of the four automatic weather stations (AWS) set up by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Nagpur recorded unusually high temperatures, exceeding 50 degrees Celsius.
The Nagpur AWS recorded an astounding 56 degrees Celsius. The AWS at the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Sonegaon also recorded 54 degrees Celsius.
On the other hand, at least 14 people in India’s Bihar state died from heatstroke in a single day this week, a government press release said on Friday, after abnormally high temperatures scorched much of the country.
“As per information received so far, a total of 14 persons… succumbed to death due to heat stroke” on Thursday, the Bihar state disaster management department said.
Meanwhile, the weather department on Friday forecast heavy rain in parts of Tamil Nadu till June 3, according to Indo-Asian News Service.
Heavy rain is expected in Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Tiruppatur, Salem, Erode, Nilgiris, Coimbatore (hilly region), Tiruchi and Namakkal districts due to northeast monsoon and atmospheric low-level circulation over south Tamil Nadu.
A yellow alert is announced in these districts where heavy rain is expected.
There is a possibility of moderate rain in many places in Tamil Nadu, Karaikal and Puducherry on Friday.
On June 1 and June 2, the weather department predicted rain with thunderstorms in many parts of the state.
On June 3 there is a possibility of moderate rain with thunder and lightning in Puducherry and Karaikal.
Heavy rain is expected on June 3 in Tiruppatur, Ranipet, Vellore and Tiruvallur districts.
