Al Ain Court of First Instance obligated an employee to pay Dhs48,618 to the company he previously worked for, after he stole from it items he had received, including a mobile phone, a camera, a drone and its battery, and he also caused damage to the company’s vehicle which had been allocated for him for transportation.
In the details, a company filed a lawsuit against an employee who worked for it, requesting that he be obligated to pay it Dhs54,813, the value of bringing him to the UAE, the stolen goods, and costs of repairing the damage he did to the vehicle, besides obligating him to pay Dhs10,000 in compensation for moral damages it incurred, and a 12% delay interest from the date of the claim until verdict, as well as lawsuit fees and expenses.
The company said that the appellee worked for it and that it paid his visa fees of Dhs6,541, besides getting him a driving license and during his period of work he received a mobile phone, a cheque for Dhs3,500, a vehicle, and a camera for Dhs12,158, but he stole these tools, and damaged the vehicle which needed repair of Dhs21,940.
The company indicated that he was convicted of a criminal case.
The court explained that the appellee’s mistake was proved in the papers, as he embezzled the company’s money, and that the criminal ruling was final due to not appealing it, in accordance with the attached certificate.
The court also stated that the company submitted an invoice for the total value of the damages caused by the appellee and the prices of the phone he received in the amount of Dhs5,139, the bill for purchasing the drone and its battery in the amount of Dhs4,931, the bill for purchasing the camera in the amount of Dhs12,158, and a copy of the cheque he received of the amount of Dhs3,500, the value of repairing the vehicle in the amount of Dhs17,890, with a total amount of Dhs43,618. Consequently, the court obligated the appellee to pay the amount to the company in addition to a compensation of Dhs5,000 for all moral damages it incurred.
