Pakistan Successfully Recovered Rs. 105 Billion From Power Theft

The government and military have joined forces to recover Rs105 billion in a nationwide effort to stop power theft. This initiative aims to strengthen the economy and address the ongoing energy crisis in Pakistan.

From June 30 to July 17, operations took place in major cities including Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan, Islamabad, Peshawar, Hyderabad, Sukkur, and Quetta. These efforts resulted in the recovery of Rs2.03 billion and the arrest of over 83,000 individuals involved in electricity theft.

The crackdown is part of a larger plan to eliminate power theft throughout the country. The power sector has reported significant challenges in collecting bills, especially in Punjab, where the recovery issues are as large as the combined demand of KPK and Balochistan.

Moving forward, the focus will be on identifying the actual units of electricity and gas lost due to theft. The government emphasizes the importance of accountability in tackling this issue and aims to continue its efforts to reduce power theft across Pakistan.
