Social Media Platforms Collect Rs. 7 Billion Sales Revenue From Pakistan in 2023-24

On Friday, the National Assembly was informed about the revenue generated by major social media platforms in Pakistan for the 2023-24 fiscal year. It was reported that platforms like Google, Facebook, and WhatsApp earned a total of Rs 7.129 billion from Pakistani users.

Out of this total revenue, Rs 785 million was collected as taxes. In response to an inquiry from Wajiha Qamar, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb shared details from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). According to the records, Google alone generated Rs 6.876 billion in revenue, while Facebook and WhatsApp combined earned Rs 343 million.

This information highlights the significant financial impact of these platforms on the Pakistani market and the substantial tax contributions they make.
