The Punjab government has announced plans to launch 102 eco-friendly electric buses to improve public transport in Rawalpindi. The project aims to provide residents with better travel facilities while promoting sustainable and efficient transport options.

This decision was finalized during a Provincial Development Working Party meeting on October 25. The new bus service will operate on 10 routes, covering an 84-kilometer area in Rawalpindi. The total cost of the project is over 7 billion PKR, with the Punjab government already allocating 4.7 billion PKR to fund its development.

The Punjab Mass Transit Authority will manage the project, ensuring its smooth implementation. These electric buses are designed to reduce air pollution in the city, providing a cleaner and more environmentally friendly alternative to traditional vehicles.

By adopting this modern public transport system, the government aims to address both traffic congestion and environmental concerns in Rawalpindi.

This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to improving urban mobility and supporting green energy solutions. Once operational, the electric bus service will offer residents a more reliable and comfortable way to travel while contributing to a healthier urban environment.
