Islamabad to Cancel Vehicle Registrations Due to Unpaid Token Tax

The Excise and Taxation Department in Islamabad has given vehicle owners 15 days, starting January 1, to pay their token tax. If they fail to meet this deadline, their vehicle registrations will be canceled.

The department’s software will automatically flag vehicles with unpaid token taxes. After the deadline, owners will need to pay a hefty 200% penalty to restore their registration.

This decision is aimed at tackling the increasing number of defaulters. Excise officers often come across vehicles with overdue token taxes, even after imposing fines. In some cases, the same vehicles are caught repeatedly for the same issue.

Director Bilal Azam Khan has urged vehicle owners to pay their token tax on time to avoid legal consequences. The department hopes this strict measure will encourage compliance and reduce the number of defaulters. Vehicle owners are advised to act quickly and avoid unnecessary penalties.
