Pakistan’s mobile phone imports have dropped by 7.52% in the first five months of the 2024-25 fiscal year. The total value of imports during this period was $570.17 million, compared to $616.52 million during the same time last year.

In terms of Pakistani rupees, imports were worth Rs158.51 billion, which is a 10.60% decrease from the previous year. In November 2024, there was a 14.32% decrease in imports compared to the previous month, with the value of imports standing at $149.37 million. However, there was a 1.93% increase in imports when compared to November 2023.

On the other hand, local mobile phone production is on the rise. In 2024, domestic factories produced 22.59 million handsets, which is much higher than the 1.17 million phones that were imported. In September, local production reached 2.15 million units, a figure much higher than the number of imported phones.

This shift indicates a growing trend towards local production, which has been steadily increasing while imports continue to decline.

The rise in domestic manufacturing reflects the success of local industry initiatives, helping to meet the demand for mobile phones in the country while reducing reliance on imports.
