The Lahore High Court (LHC) has directed the Punjab government to take steps to ensure the safety of women in shelter homes. As part of these measures, the court ordered the removal of all male staff from shelter homes, except for essential positions.

The decision was made following reports of exploitation at a Lahore shelter in 2019. To prevent such incidents, the LHC emphasized the need for strict implementation of the Punjab Protection of Women Against Violence Act, 2016, and related laws.

The court also instructed the government to establish women protection committees and make regular inspections of shelter homes mandatory. It further ordered the installation of CCTV cameras to monitor activities and enhance security.

In addition, the LHC directed the Child Protection Bureau to introduce proper rules for running child care facilities. These regulations aim to create a safer environment for children and ensure their well-being in such facilities.

The court’s actions are part of ongoing efforts to address the challenges faced by women and children in shelter homes. These steps will help create a secure and supportive environment for vulnerable individuals, ensuring their rights and safety are upheld.
