Pakistan’s cricket sensation, Babar Azam, has been nominated for the prestigious ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year Award. This nomination highlights his exceptional contributions to the sport, even in a year where his form with the bat was inconsistent.

In 2024, Babar showcased his skills by scoring 738 runs in 24 matches at an average of 33.54. His performance included six half-centuries and nearly 100 boundaries, demonstrating his ability to anchor innings and accelerate when needed. Notably, his strike rate improved significantly to 133.21, reflecting his adaptability in the shortest format of the game.

Babar’s standout performance came during the away series against Ireland, where he smashed 75 runs off just 42 balls at a strike rate of 178.57. This innings displayed his aggressive style and ability to handle pressure in crucial games.

The competition for this award is tough, with contenders like India’s Arshdeep Singh, Australia’s Travis Head, and Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza also in the running. Each nominee has made remarkable contributions to T20I cricket this year.

This nomination is another feather in Babar’s cap, further solidifying his reputation as one of the top cricketers in the world. Whether he wins the award or not, it is a testament to his hard work and consistent performances on the international stage.
