Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan is reportedly recovering after surgery.

Police in Mumbai have detained a man in connection with a knife attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, which occurred on Thursday morning at his residence in the upscale Bandra neighborhood.

Khan was injured during a scuffle with an unidentified individual. He has since undergone surgery and is recovering.

Authorities have seized CCTV footage from Khan’s residence, and initial reports suggest that the attack may have been an attempted theft. It is unclear if the man in custody is the same individual who attacked Khan.

A statement from Eliyama Philip, a nurse who works in Khan’s home, provides further details on the incident. According to Philip, she noticed a man’s shadow near the bathroom door late at night while she was in the room with Khan’s son and the nanny.

The man, armed with a wooden object and a long blade, threatened Philip and the nanny, demanding $115,477. A scuffle broke out during which Philip was injured, and the nanny fled the room.

Khan and his wife, actress Kareena Kapoor, rushed to the room after hearing the commotion. The assailant attacked Khan with the knife when he confronted him, then fled the scene.

Khan sustained several injuries, including one on the back of his neck. He was taken to Lilavati Hospital, where Dr. Nitin Dange reported that the actor had arrived with a knife fragment embedded in his spine and was bleeding.

The fragment was surgically removed, and doctors managed to control fluid leakage. Dr. Dange confirmed that timely treatment prevented severe spinal damage, and Khan’s condition has improved. He has been moved out of the ICU but will require rest and restricted movement for a week.

Mumbai’s Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dixit Gadam, confirmed that the weapon used in the attack has not yet been recovered. He also mentioned that the suspect used a fire escape ladder to enter the house. Investigations are ongoing to determine how the intruder gained access to the residence. A formal complaint has been registered based on the statement from the nurse.
