ISLAMABAD: After urging citizens to get M-Tags over the years, National Highways Authority (NHA) has finally decided that the people lacking M-Tags will have to pay 25pc extra toll tax on motorways.

“In exercise of powers conferred under Section 10(2) vii of NHA Act 1991 as amended in 2001, National Highways Authority hereby notifies for the information of the public that in order to implement 100pc M-Tag regime on all motorways in the country, the vehicles without M-Tag or low balance/cash vehicles shall pay additional toll of 25pc over and above the original toll rate with minimum capping of Rs50 w.e.f Feb 1 ,” notification states.

M-Tag are pre-paid stickers/technology [pasted on vehicles] which allow people to skip the queues, drive in designated faster lanes, and enjoy a seamless, cashless tolling experience.
