Prince Karim Aga Khan IV, the spiritual leader of the Ismaili community and founder of the Aga Khan Development Network, has passed away peacefully in Lisbon at the age of 88.

Born in Geneva in 1936, he became the 49th Imam of the Ismaili community at just 20 years old after the passing of his grandfather. Throughout his life, he dedicated himself to philanthropy, leading development programs across Asia and Africa to improve education, healthcare, and cultural preservation. His efforts transformed many communities, bringing positive change to millions of lives.

Beyond his humanitarian work, Prince Karim Aga Khan IV had a deep passion for thoroughbred horse racing and was well-known in the equestrian world.

His passing is a great loss, and world leaders have expressed their sorrow, remembering him as a man of wisdom, peace, and compassion. His successor will be announced soon, continuing his legacy of service and dedication to the well-being of the Ismaili community and beyond.
