Sharmila Faruqui slams Danish Taimoor’s remarks on polygamy, calls marriage a partnership, ‘not a man’s charity’

The actor has since apologised for his remarks but the criticism is not over.

Sharmila Faruqui has strongly criticized Danish Taimoor’s recent remarks on polygamy, which were made during an episode of Mehfil-e-Ramzan, a Ramazan transmission that Taimoor co-hosts with Rabia Anam.

During the episode, Taimoor unprovokedly shared his views on multiple marriages in Islam, which created outrage among viewers – and the entire nation.

Taimoor’s comments, where he stated that he was “allowed” four marriages in Islam and how it is his ‘God-given right that cannot be snatched away’, his words alluded that he was “doing a favour” to Ayeza Khan by not marrying again, drew significant backlash.

Faruqui, a member of the National Assembly has never shyed away from vocalising her opinion on such topics.

She took to Instagram to express her views on Taimoor’s statement.

She wrote, “Danish Taimoor’s remark — that he is ‘allowed’ four marriages in Islam but is ‘doing a favour’ to Ayeza Khan by not marrying again — is not just arrogant, it’s a blatant reflection of how men manipulate religion to suit their own dominance.” Faruqui further emphasized that Taimoor’s remarks reduced marriage to a power dynamic rather than a partnership.

“Polygamy in Islam is not a privilege handed to men at their convenience; it is an exception under strict conditions of justice — conditions most men fail to meet,” Faruqui added.

No lies told there!

In her scathing caption, she further stated, “This is the real problem: men believing that women owe them gratitude for not being discarded or replaced.”

Faruqui made it clear that women do not need favours from men but require respect, agency, and recognition that marriage should be viewed as a partnership, not an act of charity.

Her statement reflects her broader stance on gender equality and the need for respectful relationships.

In response to the significant backlash from fans and celebrities alike, Danish Taimoor issued an apology on Instagram.

He posted a video where he admitted that his choice of words had been inappropriate and that he did not manage to express his intended message.

Taimoor specifically referenced the word “filhaal,” which was the source of much of the online outrage.

Ayeza Khan herself commented on the video in support of her husband, “May Allah always keep us together forever. I love you. ❤️”
