Renowned Pakistani actor makes Bollywood comeback after 9 years with romantic drama Abir Gulal opposite Vaani Kapoor.

Renowned Pakistani actor Fawad Khan is set to make his much-anticipated return to Bollywood after a nine-year break, starring in the upcoming romantic drama Abir Gulal alongside Indian actress Vaani Kapoor.

Fawad, who last appeared in the 2016 hit Kapoor & Sons, has been absent from the Indian film industry amid rising political tensions between the two countries.

His comeback has generated significant buzz, especially with the recent release of the film’s first romantic track, Ishq Khudaya. Sung by celebrated playback artists Arijit Singh and Shilpa Rao, the song has been warmly received by fans across borders.

According to industry insiders, Fawad Khan is reportedly earning between INR50 to 100 million for his role in the high-budget production. In comparison, his per-episode fee for television dramas in Pakistan ranges between Rs1.5 to 2 million.

His co-star, Vaani Kapoor, who plays the female lead, is reportedly being paid around INR15 million for the film.

Abir Gulal is directed by Aarti S. Bagdi and has been shot against the picturesque backdrops of London. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on May 9, 2025.

With Fawad Khan’s star power and the film’s cross-border appeal, Abir Gulal is already being tipped as one of the most anticipated South Asian releases of the year.
