In a significant step toward strengthening bilateral trade and economic collaboration between Portugal and Pakistan, the Portugal-Pakistan Business Council was officially inaugurated in Lahore. The esteemed Governor of Punjab, Sardar Saleem, presided over the ceremony, marking the formal launch of this strategic initiative aimed at enhancing cross-border commerce, investment, and partnerships.

The Council has been established under the visionary leadership of Gohar Rehman, who will serve as the Founding President. Mr. Rehman, a prominent figure in international trade and diplomacy, emphasized the Council’s mission to build robust commercial bridges between the two nations, encouraging mutual growth through trade facilitation, business networking, and cultural exchange.

In his keynote address, Governor Sardar Saleem applauded the initiative, stating, “This Council represents a promising future for Portugal-Pakistan relations. By creating a dedicated platform for business leaders, entrepreneurs, and investors from both countries, we open new doors for economic cooperation and innovation.”

The inauguration ceremony gathered diplomats, government officials, industry leaders, and members of the business community. Attendees expressed optimism about the Council’s role in identifying trade opportunities, supporting SMEs, and advocating for policy reforms to ease bilateral trade flows.

Founding President Gohar Rehman expressed gratitude for the support and shared his ambitious vision: “We are committed to making this Council a powerful force in promoting business growth and people-to-people connections. Portugal offers tremendous potential for Pakistani exports, tech collaboration, and joint ventures across multiple sectors.”

The Portugal-Pakistan Business Council will operate with offices in both countries, serving as a hub for dialogue, delegation exchanges, investment forums, and collaborative business ventures.

As global economies increasingly rely on strategic partnerships, this launch stands as a timely and vital move to deepen international trade relations and promote economic diplomacy between Pakistan and the European Union via Portugal.
