Pakistan has taken over the presidency of the United Nations Security Council for the month of July 2025. This marks the country’s eighth time as a member of the Council and its first presidency since 2013.

Assuming this important position during a time of global challenges, Pakistan is expected to play a key role in addressing major international issues. The world is currently facing several ongoing conflicts, rising political tensions, and declining confidence in global institutions like the UN.

As the president of the Security Council, Pakistan will be responsible for setting the agenda, leading discussions, and helping guide the Council’s efforts toward peace and stability. This includes organizing meetings on current global crises and supporting diplomatic solutions to major disputes.

Pakistan’s leadership comes at a crucial time, and there are high hopes that the country will use this opportunity to highlight important issues, promote dialogue, and encourage cooperation among member nations. The presidency also allows Pakistan to showcase its commitment to peace, international law, and multilateral decision-making.

Observers believe that Pakistan will likely focus on matters such as regional security, conflict resolution, and strengthening the role of the UN in maintaining global peace. With its experience in international diplomacy and previous terms on the Council, Pakistan is seen as capable of handling the complex tasks that come with this position.

The international community will be watching closely as Pakistan leads the Security Council during July 2025.
