LAHORE: Eight people, including two minors, were killed and 19 others injured when a speeding bus collided with a trailer in Muzaffargarh on Saturday morning.

An Alipur-bound bus collided with a trailer while overtaking a truck at Langar Saray Jhang Road at 5:20am.

As a result, 25 passengers were injured severely, and six of them succumbed to their wounds on the spot. Eight of the injured were shifted to Nishtar Hospital and 11 others to District Headquarter Hospital Muzaffargarh. The bodies of six deceased were also shifted to DHQ.

A Rescue 1122 official told media that the bus driver had overtaken a truck and collided with the trailer coming from the opposite side.

He said the bus driver’s side collided with the trailer resulting in the death of the driver and passengers sitting behind him.

Meanwhile, 13 injured were shifted to Nishtar Hospital – eight in the morning and five others during afternoon – for treatment as their situation deteriorated in DHQ. Two of them succumbed to their fatal head injuries.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed grief over the loss and offered condolences and expressed her heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families.
