ISLAMABAD: Two constables from the Security Division Islamabad have been suspended and facing inquiry for allegedly violating the capital police’s social media policy by making and uploading TikTok videos in uniform.

Sources said that dozens of other lower-ranking officials had been warned and directed to remove their TikTok accounts to avoid further action.

The suspended officials, according to the sources, may face possible dismissal from service, as the inquiry against them has been ordered to determine the extent of their ‘misconduct’.

According to a senior police officer, both the suspended constables had uploaded an inappropriate content in uniform on the social media with Indian movie songs in the background.

These constables have been suspended to face an inquiry to be conducted by an SP.

He said the two constables had been issued show-cause with the directive to respond within seven days.

Their suspension orders have been issued from the office of the Deputy Inspector General of Police Security Division on the grounds of ‘inefficiency and negligence’.

One of the constables was performing duty at the High Security Zone and the other was a member of the Special Protection Guard.

Another police officer told media that dozens of officials had been issued warning and asked to remove their TikTok accounts to avoid further departmental action.

In September last year, the capital police devised a policy regarding use of social media platforms by officials and officers. The policy, issued from the Centre Police Office, Islamabad, restrains the police officers and officials from speaking at public forums in official capacity, publishing articles in print media or giving any opinions or official statements across all social medial platforms.

The policy also prohibits making of videos and pictures in uniform in government premises, buildings, and vehicles or other private places for personal publicity and glorification.

There has been a bar on the police officials on uploading any kind of secret or official documents, pictures or content of the document on social media. Besides this, the officers and officials are also not allowed to share political or religious views on any platform.

However, the officials require a prior permission from DIGs through Public Relations Branch, if they want to highlight some positive departmental activities through videos on social media platforms.

Heads have been made responsible for personally supervising and monitoring the activities of officers and officials posted in their respective divisions, zones and units.
