PDMA Issues Flood Alert in Punjab, Heavy Rains Expected in Upper Pakistan Starting August 13

The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a warning about possible flooding in the Sutlej River as a new spell of monsoon rains is expected to start on August 13.

Officials say that heavy rains could cause the water level in the river to rise, and the situation may worsen if more water is released from reservoirs located upstream. These reservoirs, which are in India, are already holding significant amounts of water — with Bhakra Dam at 61% capacity, Pong Dam at 76%, and Thein Dam at 64%.

The PDMA is keeping a close watch on the situation and working with other government departments to make sure the risk is properly managed. Local administrations, including the Irrigation Department and provincial commissioners, have been placed on high alert to respond quickly if the water levels rise further.

Relief teams and other relevant departments have been instructed to remain ready to take action and provide help to people in case flooding occurs.

Authorities are also urging residents in low-lying and riverbank areas to stay informed through official updates and take safety precautions to protect their families and property.
