Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued new flood warnings as heavy monsoon rains continue to batter the country.

The authority has cautioned that the coming days may bring more risks, especially in Punjab, where major rivers are swelling due to continuous rainfall.

According to the NDMA, the River Ravi faces a medium-level flood threat within the next 48 hours. The situation in the Sutlej River is already more serious, as it has reached high flood levels, putting surrounding areas at risk of overflow. Emergency teams have been placed on standby to respond quickly if water levels rise further.

Several districts in Punjab including Lahore, Multan, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, and Dera Ghazi Khan have been placed on high alert.

Local administrations have directed residents in low-lying areas to take precautionary steps such as avoiding unnecessary travel, moving to safer ground if needed, securing important belongings, and keeping emergency supplies ready.

Officials say the country has been facing an unusually harsh monsoon season this year. Since late June, nearly 800 people have lost their lives due to floods, landslides, and rain-related accidents. August alone has been the deadliest month, with a sharp rise in casualties and property damage.

Rescue and relief operations are continuing, with efforts focused on evacuating vulnerable communities and providing food, shelter, and medical care.

Authorities have urged citizens to remain alert and follow official instructions closely, warning that the situation could worsen if heavy rains persist in the coming days.
