Abu Dhabi has been named the wealthiest city in the world based on the capital managed by its sovereign wealth funds (SWFs), according to a recent report by Global SWF.

As of October 2024, the SWFs based in the UAE capital manage an impressive $1.7 trillion in assets. This figure includes major funds such as the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), Mubadala (which encompasses the Abu Dhabi Investment Council and Mubadala Capital), ADQ (part of Lunate), the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, Tawazun (including EDGE), and the Emirates Investment Authority.

Oslo comes in second place, with its Government Pension Fund managing over $1.6 trillion. Other notable cities like Beijing, Singapore, Riyadh, and Hong Kong are also highlighted in the report, collectively overseeing a staggering $12.5 trillion in global SWF capital.

Abu Dhabi’s leading position underscores its significant role in the global financial landscape, showcasing the strength and scale of its investment capabilities. This recognition reflects the city’s strategic investments and financial planning, positioning it as a key player in managing global wealth.
