Alibaba Launches Advanced AI Model, Claiming to Surpass DeepSeek

Alibaba has introduced its latest artificial intelligence (AI) model, Qwen 2.5-Max, and claims that it performs better than DeepSeek-V3, an AI model created by its competitor, DeepSeek.

The launch of Qwen 2.5-Max comes at a significant time—during the Lunar New Year—indicating that Alibaba is feeling the pressure from DeepSeek’s recent achievements. DeepSeek’s AI assistant has made a strong impact in Silicon Valley, gaining attention for its ability to operate at lower development costs compared to other AI models.

As a result, major Chinese tech companies, including ByteDance and Alibaba, are in a race to improve their AI models and stay ahead in the competition. However, DeepSeek’s founder, Liang Wenfeng, has made it clear that the company is not focused on competing through pricing strategies. Instead, DeepSeek is committed to developing artificial general intelligence (AGI), which aims to create AI systems that can think and learn like humans. Wenfeng also pointed out that even the largest tech companies face limitations when it comes to advancing AI technology.
