Alibaba Launches New AI Chatbot Service Offering Free Chat Via Text And Voice

Alibaba has launched a new AI chatbot service that allows users to chat freely through text or voice. The new feature is part of the company’s Quark app, which is being positioned as Alibaba’s main consumer platform powered by AI.

Originally created as a web browser, Quark has evolved into an intelligent app that combines search tools, information services and smart chat functions. The newly added chatbot can answer questions, provide instant information and assist users with daily tasks through natural conversations.

Alibaba said the chatbot uses its latest Qwen3 large language model, designed to improve how the AI understands, reasons and responds to users. The company believes the tool will make everyday digital interactions faster and more efficient for the general public.

Alibaba has been focusing on bringing AI to businesses through its cloud division, but this new move shows a renewed effort to connect directly with consumers. The company hopes this service will help it compete with other tech giants like ByteDance and Tencent, who currently lead China’s consumer AI space.

Alongside the chatbot launch, Alibaba also announced that pre-orders for its new Quark AI Glasses will open on Tmall, its online shopping platform. The smart glasses, first revealed in July, will be priced at 4,699 yuan (about $660) and are expected to start shipping in December.

With these developments, Alibaba is clearly stepping up its game to blend AI with everyday life, combining smart software and hardware to offer users a more connected digital experience.
